During Driver training at Deepcut March 1954. This was followed by 4 weeks of a Tank Drivers training in a Centurian and a Churchill, this tank was used mainly for road work as it was fitted with rubber tracks. Part way through this training I vollunteered for active service in Malaya.
In those days it was a proud moment when we "passed out" having family and friends seated on the edge of the parade ground watching march-past. During those 3 months of basic training we had achieved a wide range of tasks which the average teenager could not experience in civilian life.
